Korean Intellectual Property Office cracks down on counterfeit goods at BTS J-HOPE concert venue
The Korean Intellectual Property Office will be cracking down on K-POP counterfeits at the concert venue of BTS's J-HOPE.
The Korea Intellectual Property Office's Trademark Special Judicial Police will be held at the Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province on the 13th of this month.
The company announced that it will be cracking down on K-pop counterfeits and conducting a cultural campaign to respect intellectual property at the final concert of J-Hope's world tour, which is scheduled for June 2021.
The aim of this crackdown is to block the distribution of products that illegally use K-pop artists' trademarks, and to raise awareness of the importance of a culture of consuming genuine products with citizens who visit concert venues.
The campaign, which has the slogan "Fakes out, genuine products OK!", will feature a live-action exhibition where customers can directly compare genuine and counterfeit products, as well as an SNS verification photo event.
A variety of participation-based programs will be held. This campaign, jointly organized by the Korean Intellectual Property Office, HYBE, and the Korea Intellectual Property Protection Agency, is an exemplary cooperation model that preemptively responds to the issue of counterfeit goods.
A HYBE representative said, "An artist's creations and brand are more than just products; they are assets built on the trust of fans. Consuming genuine products is a way of respecting artists and protecting intellectual property."
"As this is the most direct way to eradicate counterfeit goods, we will continue to cooperate with the Korean Intellectual Property Office to eradicate counterfeit goods and improve awareness," the company said.
A total of 29,111 counterfeit K-POP goods, including 6,759 counterfeit BTS-related items such as photo cards, key rings, and mugs, were seized in the Myeong-dong area, and two suspects were charged with violating the Trademark Act.
In addition, from the 26th of last month to the 10th of this month, the "online counterfeit goods home monitoring team" was deployed to crack down on counterfeit K-POP goods online, and major platforms
Based on the information collected during online monitoring, the Trademark Police is investigating habitual and multi-channel sellers.
The plan is to switch to an investigation and begin tracking and arresting the perpetrators.
