Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visits the Small Room Consultation Center and ”Composition of the Task Force for Improvement of Rental Housing Vacancies” (South Korea)
On the 9th, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited a small room consultation center that supports the homeless and other housing-vulnerable classes, and explained the details of the small room consultation center under the Prime Minister's Office, which is working to solve the problem of vacant public rental housing.
Prime Minister Kim visited the Small Room Counseling Center in Dong-gu, Daejeon City at around 8:30 a.m. on the same day and inspected the living conditions of vulnerable classes in the summer.
He was accompanied by First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Lee Su-ran, Director of the Social Coordination Office of the Office for Government Policy Coordination Shim Jong-seop, and Chang Cheol-min, both lawmakers from the Democratic Party.
Prime Minister Kim spoke to Pastor Won Yong-cheol of Bethel House, which is running the counseling center on a consignment basis, and Jo Bu-hwal, director of the counseling center.
Prime Minister Kim spoke about the difficulties in operating the housing and the legislative proposals for improvement. Hearing that the vacancy rate of public rental housing prepared for the vulnerable classes was high, he said, "We built it to do a good thing, but it has been vacant for a long time.
"If that's the case, it's extremely irrational. We'll create a task force to improve vacant rental housing," he said. "We need to check the vacancy rate of public rental housing nationwide. We need to continue to prevent vacancies.
"If we can't do that, we need to discuss what to do," said Rep. Chang and Rev. Won. "The law on redevelopment of small room villages includes a 2.6 square meter (0.8 pyeong) and 6.6 square meter (
"There is no plan to provide compensation to small landowners, such as those with land of less than 6.6 square meters, making it difficult to advance housing welfare projects," the ministry said, calling on Prime Minister Kim to make improvements to the situation.
Prime Minister Kim also said that the facility was established as one of the homeless welfare facilities under the Homeless Welfare Law.
They also stated that the name "Small Room Counseling Center" did not match the function and role of the center, and suggested that "it would be better to change the name to something that more accurately reflects the reality and is future-oriented."
