South Korea's candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family sparks controversy by replacing aides 46 times
It has been revealed that Kang Sun-woo, South Korea's candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, has changed his aides 46 times in the five years since he was first elected to the National Assembly in 2020.
According to documents obtained by the office of People Power Party lawmaker Han Ji-ah from the National Assembly Secretariat, Kang has been in the National Assembly since being elected.
In the past five years, 51 aides have been appointed, and 46 have been dismissed. A Diet member's aides are usually made up of nine people, including two aides at the fourth level and two appointed secretaries at the fifth level.
Some in the political world have pointed out that such frequent changes in aides are unusual. One lawmaker said, "Given the frequent changes in aides, it shows that Kang is someone who needs to respect others.
"I have doubts as to whether she will be able to take responsibility and lead the organisation as minister for gender equality and family."
