Coinbase's derivatives division will launch a new futures product that simultaneously tracks the company's stocks.
The index will include seven major tech stocks: Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, Meta, and Tesla, as well as BlackRock
The ETF will include Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, as well as Coinbase stocks. Coinbase said, "Among derivative products listed in the US to date, it is the first to incorporate both stocks and crypto assets at the same time."
"There was no product like this before," he said, explaining, "It will allow you to experience different asset classes in one contract." With this release, Coinbase launched its derivatives trading platform in May last year for $2.9 billion.
This marks the first large-scale expansion of the derivatives business since the company acquired Deribit. Last year, global cryptocurrency derivatives trading volume increased by 132% compared to the previous year.
In 2025, trading is expected to reach more than $20 trillion in the first half of the year alone, breaking the previous record. Each component of the new futures index is weighted equally at 10%, with institutional investors taking the lead.
The details of the transactions will be made public through the partner platform and will be available to general investors within the next few months. The contracts will be settled monthly in cash, and each contract will be used to calculate the fund price.
The index is calculated by multiplying the value by 1. The index is rebalanced quarterly and the official provider is MarketVector.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said the product is part of the company's "all-encompassing exchange" strategy.
He stated that he plans to continue to develop similar products in the future. In July last year, Coinbase changed the name of its wallet service from "Coinbase Wallet" to "Base A."
The company previously announced plans to change its name to "Base app" and build an "all-encompassing app" that would include wallet, trading, payment, social media, and messaging functions.
