いじめを苦に自ら死を選んだ?MBC気象キャスターのオ・ヨアンナさん、きょう(15日)1周忌…遺族が社屋前で断食デモ→追悼文化祭まで開催
Did bullying lead to suicide? MBC weather anchor Oh Yo-han's death marks the first anniversary of her death today (15th)... Family members hold hunger protest in front of company building → Memorial cultural festival held
It has been a year since the death of the late MBC weather anchor Oh Yo-han. She passed away on September 15th of last year at the age of 28.
The circumstances surrounding the deceased's death were notified three months later, on December 10th of last year. A suicide note containing 17 pages was found on the deceased's cell phone.
The family filed a lawsuit against MBC weather anchor A in the Seoul Central District Court in December last year, seeking damages for workplace bullying.
In the lawsuit, the family names specific fellow weather forecasters and alleges that Oh Joanna was subjected to verbal abuse and unfair instructions from colleagues for approximately two years, from October 2021 until just before she passed away in September last year.
On May 19, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the results of a special labor inspection of MBC, stating that it had "determined that bullying had occurred against the deceased."
The Ministry of Employment decided that it would be difficult to recognize the deceased as a worker. As the Ministry of Employment did not recognize the deceased as a worker, the deceased was not subject to the provisions of the Labor Standards Act (Article 76-2) regarding "workplace bullying."
After that, MBC renewed its contracts with the remaining three, excluding one weather anchor. After comprehensively reviewing the results of the special labor inspection investigation by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the results of an internal investigation, it decided to renew the contracts with one of the four.
The family of the deceased has been holding a fast and protest in front of the MBC building in Mapo-gu, Seoul since the 8th.
Ng Young-mi has begun a hunger strike, demanding an apology from MBC and measures to prevent recurrence. Prior to this, Oh Yo-anna's older brother, Mr. A, had sent a message to MBC on behalf of the bereaved family through his social media account.
The company said it had conveyed its demands and sought to resolve the issue, but was unable to receive a response. The demands included an official apology from the MBC president and the announcement of measures to prevent recurrence, and the awarding of an honorary society to Oh Yo-han.
The changes reportedly include the awarding of employee IDs, the preparation of a memorial space within the company, and the promotion of the weather forecaster to a full-time position. A cultural festival in memory of the late Oh Yo-han will also be held in front of MBC at 7 pm on the 15th.
