【個別インタビュー】自由に、熱く、青春を走る! デビュー4年目「TNX」が語る“今”と“未来”
[Individual Interview] Freely and passionately running through youth! Four years after their debut, ”TNX” talks about the ”present” and ”future”
"TNX" is now in its fourth year since its debut. Having just finished their promotion in Japan, they spoke about their thoughts on music, their everyday lives, and a passionate message for "THX (fans)."
Q. You've been touring Osaka and Tokyo for promotional events for your 4th mini album "For Real," but have you had the chance to interact with your fans up close?
How was it? Eun Hwi: Today was our last promotion, and fans were in tears and said from the bottom of their hearts, "It's a shame that this is the last one, but let's meet again."
I was very moved by that. Jung Junhyuk: I was particularly impressed this time, but I was surprised at how well the Korean of the Japanese THX members had improved.
People who were a little awkward before were now very fluent. Seeing that made me think, "Next time I visit Japan, I'll study Japanese more."
Oh SungJun: (Speaking Japanese) I was happy to be able to show a new stage in Japan with this album.
Jung Junhyuk: (in Japanese) Amazing! Q. For this album, you all decided on the genre of the songs,
I heard that you also participated in writing lyrics, composing music, and producing. Jung Junhyuk: When we were preparing for the album "For Real?", all the members got together and discussed, "What kind of music, genre,
We had a lot of discussions about what concept and color we wanted to bring out. After that, we thought deeply about what we wanted to show with this album.
Oh Sungjun: When the song was completed and released, I thought it would be great if many people liked it.
I felt a sense of accomplishment that I've never felt before. My expectations for the next album have grown even more. Jang Hyun Soo: This is an album that all the members worked on together, and it's the one that I'm most attached to to date.
Q. When you write a song, do you get advice from anyone? Eun Hwi: When I write a song, rather than asking for opinions from the beginning, I like to give it a more shaped form and then ask everyone to listen to it.
After that, we go through the process of adjusting things by incorporating their opinions, such as "How about trying this part like this?"
Q. How do you go about creating the melody and lyrics for a song?
Did you incorporate any notes that you normally take?
Eun Hwi: I tend to create the foundation with the beat first, but
I wrote the lyrics first, then poured them into the lyrics that fit the situation and theme. Oh Sungjun: When I write lyrics, I first listen to the song and think, "This song has this kind of atmosphere."
I asked the bar to convey the image. From there, I started with a blank slate, adding and removing words one by one, and putting it together to fit my sense. Q.
Do you have any routines when writing songs? Jung Junhyuk: Before I start writing, I read a book or sit alone at a cafe drinking coffee.
I try to make time for it. Then when I start working, it's easier to concentrate. Eun Hwi: We have a studio in the office building, so we usually work there.
I don't have a specific routine, but if an idea pops into my head while I'm doing something else, I just run upstairs and start working on it.
Sometimes I write down the lyrics and then the melody comes to me later, and then I put it into shape in the studio at the office.
It's not about how to give shape to the inspiration that arises in the midst of uncertain events in the studio. I honestly face the emotions of that moment and express them. Q. "For
In the lyrics of "Real?" there is the phrase "Just say Yes." Who is the type of member who is able to express themselves in a straightforward manner?
Choi Tae Hoon: I talk to the members a lot, but as the leader, there are things that I can say and things that I have to say.
Whenever I have a problem, I try to tell them frankly. Eun Hwi: I think everyone probably thinks of me as Tae Hoon hyung. I'm the type to give honest feedback right away.
It's not that Ba isn't the type to express himself directly, but I think Taehoon hyung in particular is the one who plays that role the most.
Q. "For Real?" depicts the desperate desire for love, but what was the moment when the members realized that they were loved by each other?
Choi Tae-hoon: I feel love from the little things in everyday life rather than special events. For example, when someone helps me with the laundry or pushes the door open.
They wait for me. It's those kinds of casual considerations that stay with me the most. Oh Sungjun: I'm the youngest, but everyone really does love me like they're their own little brother.
Every time you accept my pranks, I feel that you love me. Q. I'd like to know a little bit about your real daily life that your fans don't know yet. What's your smartphone wallpaper?
Choi Tae Hoon: I'm on the default screen. I haven't set anything up. Oh Sung Jun: I'm also on the default screen.
Eun Hwi: I'm an illustration of a hamster wearing sunglasses.
Jang Hyun Soo: I am the logo of an anime. Jung Jun Hyuk: I am G-DRAGON, a senior whom I respect.
Q. When did you see a member's habit and thought, "Oh... seriously?"
Oh Sungjun: Taehoon hyung and Junhyuk hyung live next door to me, and sometimes Taehoon hyung talks in his sleep. It's a bit annoying when I suddenly hear his voice in the middle of the night.
It's scary (laughs). I can't really hear what they're saying (laughs). I'm the type of person who goes to bed late, so I often hear them talking in their sleep, especially when I'm tired.
Jung Junhyuk: Every day (laughs). Eun Hwi: I'm not the type to worry about small details, so I've never felt stressed being with everyone.
No. Rather, we have a relationship where we can be ourselves. Jang HyunSoo: For me, it's the problem of Junhyuk's luggage (laughs). He has so much luggage that I wonder, "Do we really need that much?"
I'm the type who walks. I was wondering why that is (laughs). Jung Junhyuk: I'm the type who thinks it's better to have something than nothing, so I end up with a lot.
During the promotion of [the group], my carry-on suitcase was overweight (laughs). The other members were sharing one suitcase, but I was the only one carrying it.
I was using two carry-on cases... So I reflected on it and said, "Next time I'll use something more compact" (laughs). Choi Tae Hoon: SungJun is the complete opposite of Junhyuk.
Oh Sungjun: When I go abroad, I only have half a suitcase full of things. I only have T-shirts and pants, and if I need more I can just buy more.
Eun Hwi: Even if I were to be overseas for, say, five days, it's so compact that one A4-sized paper bag would be enough (laughs).
Oh Sungjun: I don't care about what I carry. I like to keep things as simple as possible.
Q. What is something you love so much these days that you can't let it go? Eun Hwi: For me it's my MacBook. I always use it when I write songs.
It contains important data that I have worked on, so I can't let it go. Jung Junhyuk: I like exercise and I recently started running. The running shoes I bought at that time
Oh Sungjun: I love baseball, so I have a lot of baseballs and uniforms in my room.
I especially love my hometown team, the Lotte Giants, and I can't let go of any merchandise related to them. Choi Tae-hoon: At my parents' house, I have a collection of photos from the time I was born until now, sorted by year.
I have an album that I made, and when I look back at it, it's filled with all of my growth, so it's a real treasure. Jang Hyun Soo: I'm not the type to be attached to things, but I have a MacBook.
This is the one thing that is most important to us. Q. "TNX" is a team that does what it wants to do, but how would you describe the team in three words?
Eun Hwi: "Creativity, growth, and challenge." We are a team that pursues what we want to do, and taking on challenges is essential to that.
I think they are a group that grows even as they hit obstacles. Choi Tae Hoon: I would like to add "active" to Eun Hwi's name. They don't do things because they're told to, but they search for things on their own.
Oh Sungjun: For me it's "freedom, courage, and the stage." I want to be free on stage, and I want the audience to say, "You're really having fun." New
It takes courage to take on new challenges. Jung Junhyuk: For me it's 'youth, passion and potential'. I think there is a lot of potential that we have that we haven't shown to our fans or the public yet.
I feel that working hard and bringing out that passion is what it means to be young. Jang HyunSoo: For me it's "freedom, romance, and youth." There are some words that overlap with the other members, but
I think the most important thing is to play music freely, and romance is essential to music. I feel like I'm walking through this time of youth together with my fans. Q.
Is there anything you would like to do with your Japanese fans or a place you would like to go to together? Choi Tae Hoon: I would like to go to Tokyo Dome with all my fans.
Oh Sungjun: It's hard to say, but I want to go to Universal Studios Japan after Tokyo Dome, but it's Universal Studios Japan (laughs). Jung Junhyuk: We haven't had a concert since our debut.
I don't have a plan, so I want to do a concert with everyone at THX. Jang HyunSoo: I was thinking about going to Sapporo, but then I thought about it and realized it was the same as Taehoon hyung (laughs). I want to see the Tokyo Dome.
I think that holding a concert in such a large venue would be the best gift we can give to everyone at THX.
Eun Hwi: Then I'd like to visit various domes outside of Tokyo.
I would like to have more fun with all my fans there. Q. What are your goals and challenges that you would like to take on in the future?
Eun Hwi: We haven't released a full album yet, so
I would like to try making a full album. I've been writing songs for a while now, so I'm still carefully determining the right timing. Jung Junhyuk: Personally, I would like to try traveling.
I've never been there before, so I'd love to experience it. Oh Sungjun: I want to study Japanese more so that I can communicate more smoothly.
Choi Tae Hoon: I had a goal, and I was able to achieve it. I had a goal of performing on stage with the choreography I had created, and I was able to achieve that, so I'm happy.
When it comes time to hold a concert, I would like to come up with ideas for the concert together with the other members and organize it. Jang HyunSoo: Of course.
I think it's "grasping the pinnacle once." My dream is to stand at the top of the music world's biggest stage and become an artist who is loved for a long time.
That's our goal. To achieve that, we want to continue taking on new challenges. Q. Please tell us about your future activities. Oh Sungjun: We always want to show our fans and the public a new side of ourselves.
We have a lot to show you, and I think we are a team that will take on various challenges. That's why we plan to continue growing and show you a variety of different sides of ourselves.
If you can wait just a little longer, I will come back in a better state. Q. Finally, please give a message to your fans.
Choi Tae Hoon: It's been four years since our debut.
So many things have happened during that time. It was the people at THX who experienced it all together and supported us. That's why we will never forget that, and we will continue to be cool, good, and strong until the very end.
And I strongly hope to deliver only wonderful memories to you. And I want to continue walking together with you from now on. Oh Sungjun: (in Japanese) Please continue to support us.
