Employment in urban areas continues to grow. By the end of 2024, the number of employed people nationwide will reach 734.39 million, of which the number in urban areas will increase by 10.74 million from the end of 2020.
The total population in rural areas was 260.94 million, a decrease of 26.99 million from the end of 2020, accounting for 35.5% of the total.
The degree of employment growth has strengthened, and the quality and quantity of urban employment has increased. The employment absorption capacity of the tertiary industry has been strengthened. By the end of 2024, the number of employees in the tertiary industry is expected to increase by 600,000 compared to the end of 2020.
The number of employed persons reached 358.66 million, accounting for 48.8% of the national employed population, up 1.1 percentage points.
The average unemployment rate in urban areas nationwide in 2024 is expected to fall by 0.5 percentage points compared to 2020.
The average unemployment rate surveyed for migrant workers in urban areas fell 1.0 percentage point to 4.6%. In the same year, 5.15 million unemployed people were provided with reemployment support, and 1.63 million people were unable to find work.
