On the same day, Rep. Kim Jeong-jae and others participated in a press conference co-hosted by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the POSCO Group Labor Union at the National Assembly, demanding protection of the steel industry and government support.
In August of this year, 106 ruling and opposition party lawmakers met to discuss the proposals, which included subsidies, loans, tax exemptions, and production cost support for green steel technology development and investment.
Rep. Eo said, "The Korea-US tariff negotiations have been concluded, but the 50% steel tariff remains in place," and added, "The bill proposed by lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties on a bipartisan basis will be passed within this month."
"I will do my best to ensure that the bill is passed at the plenary session," Rep. Lee added, "The Kstills Act is a solution that can prevent the crisis in the steel industry, and it is a bill that is crucial to the survival of the Korean steel industry."
"The bill must be passed in the current National Assembly session," he said. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and others said, "In order to maintain the competitiveness of the Korean steel industry, legal and institutional support from the government and the National Assembly is urgently needed."
"We strongly urge the immediate enactment of the Kstills Act," he said.
