Actor Byeon WooSeok is standing up for the Korean film industry, investing his own money to support independent filmmakers.
Byeon WooSeok has started a production support project with the Seoul Independent Film Festival (SIFF).
The "SIFF X Byeon WooSeok: Shorts on 2025" open call will run from October 10th to 24th. The theme of the call is "Love."
Up to three short feature films will be selected from the submitted works. Byeon WooSeok will directly support the production costs of 30 million won, which will be distributed in stages.
The final selection will be announced at the 51st Seoul Independent Film Festival after a document screening and interview process. Entrants must be able to write a screenplay that fits the theme and be able to complete it by August next year.
Byeon WooSeok's management office will also lend a hand. VARO Entertainment will support with expert mentoring.
The film will also be screened and distributed at the Seoul Independent Film Festival, and will receive support from the general producer.
This project is a meaningful first step in the creation of a creative ecosystem.
The festival commented that the event has a special significance in building the foundation for the future of Korean cinema. Meanwhile, Byeon WooSeok will be appearing in MBC's new Fri-Sat TV series "The King's Wife."
He will also appear in the Netflix series "Only I Level Up."
