Director Joo Changmin of the Disney+ original series "Muddy Stream" shared the inside story behind casting Ro Woon (SF9).
On the morning of the 21st, Director Joo Changmin held a Disney event at a location in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
We conducted an interview for the y+ original series "Muddy Stream." "Muddy Stream" is set in the Gyeonggang River (now the Han River), where all the money and goods of Joseon gather, and tells the story of a man who tries to overturn the muddy world.
This is an action TV series that depicts the fate of people who have different dreams to live like humans.
The script was written by Jung Sung Il, who returned to period dramas for the first time in 14 years since "Chuno." Director Joo has transformed Ro Woon, who has a warm and handsome image, into a 180-degree character in "Muddy Water."
"At first, I underestimated Ro Woon," he joked. "I had a preconceived notion that Ro Woon was an idol," said Director Joo, adding, "I thought that good-looking actors can't act.
"I thought it might be okay. But when I watched it, I realized that the characters were emotionally deep. It's essential for an actor to be able to immerse themselves deeply in their own emotions," he emphasized.
He continued, "I think I've only been able to act superficially until now because I didn't have the time or the resources to digest it.
"So I was able to deliver a great emotional performance that was second to none," he said. He revealed that when casting actors, he placed more importance on personality than on "image synchronization rate."
"I realized he was a better person than I expected. I felt that I had to create the perfect Jang Si-yul. I tried out various makeup and costumes dozens of times.
There is also a version where the hair reaches down to the waist, like Jesus'."
The final episode of "Muddy Current" was released on Disney+ on the 17th.
