According to the legal community on May 16th, President Jung submitted a notice of dismissal of attorney Yang Seung-nam to the 12th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court, which is investigating the case, at midnight on the 12th.
Dismissal is the process by which the defendant or appointee relinquishes the role of defense counsel. It is different from a resignation in which a lawyer resigns voluntarily.
On the same day, another lawyer also submitted a resignation letter. The reason for his resignation is not disclosed.
Attorney Yang Seung-nam argued in a media interview in 2006 that Jeong Myung-seok, who was being pursued by the investigative authorities, was false about sexual assault while working as a pastor of JMS when he was on the run abroad.
After passing the bar exam that year, he opened a law firm in Geumsan, Chungcheongnam-do, where Wolmyeong-dong Training Center is located.
It is interpreted that Yang felt burdened by the deteriorating public opinion when it was discovered that he was in charge of defending Jeong's alleged sexual assault of a female believer.
In the meantime, a follow-up trial will be held against Jeong in the afternoon, and procedures for verification of the victim's voice recording file will be conducted.
In connection with this, a petition was submitted to the court the day before, stating that there was evidence that the recorded files had been manipulated. The submitter is presumed to be a follower of JMS.
Jeong argues that there is no original copy of the file in question and that only the recording file that is closest to the original exists, but that the identity must be confirmed because it was deleted due to a mistake by the investigative agency.
The prosecution's position is that there is no problem with the evidence, as the submitted materials have the same hash value (digital fingerprint) as the deleted files.
