Korean soccer player Son Joon-ho detained by Chinese public security, if convicted, "up to 5 years in prison" = local media
South Korean soccer player Song Joon-ho (31), who has been detained by Chinese public security authorities, was reportedly sentenced to "up to five years in prison" if convicted.

Multiple Chinese media reported on May 17th, quoting legal experts, "Song Joon Ho could be in prison for up to five years."

Currently, Song Joon Ho has been taken into custody by the Chinese public security authorities and is under investigation. Criminal detention refers to the temporary compulsory investigation of red-handed crimes and suspects according to investigative needs.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently announced at a briefing that it had criminally detained a South Korean national on suspicion of accepting bribes from non-state agents. The offense of accepting bribes from non-state agents applies to cases in which a person who belongs to a company or organization that is not a government agency illegally receives another person's property by using the convenience of his/her job. In the case of athletes, this charge may be applied when they give or receive money or goods at the wrongful request in connection with a game.

Earlier, on the 12th, Song Joon Ho was detained at the local airport by the public security authorities when he was about to depart with his family. He is still in custody and is being questioned.
