On May 26th, the Strategic Security Research Center of Tsinghua University in China released the 'Public Opinion Survey on China's International Security Prospects for 2023,' including the above results.
According to the survey, 38.4% of respondents indicated a 'unfavorable impression' of South Korea when asked about their 'impressions' of the seven regions of South Korea, the United States, Japan, India, the EU, Russia, and Southeast Asia. 17.4% were 'very unfavorable' and 21.0% were 'somewhat unfavorable'.
47.6% of respondents said they had a 'neutral' impression of South Korea, while only 13.9% said they had a 'favorable' impression.
These results were announced amid a survey showing that Korean anti-Chinese sentiment was among the highest in the world.
According to a poll by international researchers such as the Central European and Asian Institute (CEIAS) released in December last year, South Korean respondents perceived China as either 'negative' or 'extremely negative'. 81% of the respondents answered that they do, the highest among the 56 countries surveyed.
The United States was the most unfavorable country among Chinese, with 59.1% of respondents saying it was 'unfavorable.'
This is the same as how Americans perceive China. In a March poll by the Pew Research Center, an American research agency, 38% of Americans viewed China as an enemy, and 83% said they were 'unfavorable' toward China.
According to a survey conducted by the Center for Strategic Safety Research at Tsinghua University, Japan (57.5%) and India (50.6%) followed the United States in terms of the proportion of Chinese who responded that they were "unfavorable" toward each country. 24.9% in the EU and 20.2% in Southeast Asia.
On the other hand, the country with the highest 'likeability' among Chinese was Russia. 58.4% answered that they were 'favorable' and only 7.8% answered 'unfavorable.'
