Korean fan dance "Chinese dance"? Korean Prof "Cultural invasion"
Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University in South Korea protested against the Hong Kong Palace Museum's description of Korean fan dance as "Chinese dance," calling it "a culturally invasive act."

Professor Seo said on his SNS, "At the end of May this year, I sent a protest email to the Hong Kong Palace Museum to correct the incorrect information posted on SNS."

Professor Seo attached a photo on the official SNS of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, which includes a picture of him wearing a hanbok and dancing with a fan, along with the caption, "A Showcase of Chinese Dance."

Professor Seo said, "The fan dance is one of the representative dances of the Republic of Korea, but now people are saying that even the fan dance is Chinese culture." It is an act of cultural invasion to introduce Korea's representative dance as Chinese dance."

He added, "Following hanbok, kimchi, arirang, and pansori, China's 'cultural process' continues to the fan dance. Rather, we should take advantage of this situation and turn it into an opportunity to spread our traditional culture to the world."
