No surprise... The news of attracting Disney World in South Korea is "misinformation"

Gyeongsangbuk-do, in South Korea has officially denied the rumor that Disney World, a global theme park, will be built in local area. There are regrettable voices and skeptical reactions among the citizens at the same time.

According to Gyeongsangbuk-do on May 13th, Disney World's invitation to Gyeongsangbuk-do has not yet been confirmed.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is currently in talks with Chinese investment companies and related agents in connection with attracting investment in Disney World, but has not yet been in contact with Walt Disney Headquarters in the United States and Shanghai Disney World in China, which has Asian business rights. Currently, they are in the stage of waiting for an official letter from the Walt Disney headquarters in the United States regarding plans to expand into South Korea.

“It would be great if we could attract a global theme park like Disney World to the region,” said Hwang Jun-ha, director of the investment attraction office in Gyeongsangbuk-do. We have to go through a discussion process with a Shanghai-related company, Walt Disney Headquarters in the United States."

When this news was reported, the citizens raised disappointing voice. Jung So-hee, 29, said, "I went to Disneyland in Paris when I was a college student, and it was very good. I was hoping for the news that Korea could do it, but so disappointed." Lee, 24, said, "Even if I wanted to go to Disneyland, I had to go abroad. I was hoping that Disneyland would come to Korea, but what a shame."

Some have pointed out that attracting domestic Disney World was unrealistic from the beginning. Disney Theme Park is divided into Disney World and Disneyland, but Disney World has a total area of 101 ㎢ including 4 theme parks and resorts and golf courses. This scale is the largest in the world, one-sixth the level of the city of Seoul. Currently, Disney World is only in Orlando, Florida, USA. Disneyland, on the other hand, is much smaller. So to speak, Disney World is a collection of several Disneylands. The reason for the skepticism is that South Korea is not a condition for Disney World to enter.

The fact that there are already three Disneyland locations in Asia alone is also a factor that hinders realization. Currently, Disney theme parks are operating in 6 locations around the world (Orlando Anaheim (USA), Paris (France), Tokyo (Japan), Shanghai (China), Hong Kong Lantau), including Disney World in Orlando, USA, but half of them are concentrated in the Asian region. The explanation is that it is unlikely that it will be additionally created in South Korea.
