The Circulation Promotion Committee of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the former comfort women issue of the former Japanese military sent an open letter on the same day and met with Lee Yong-soo to discuss the former comfort women Resolution 121 adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007. In order to resolve the issue in accordance with the spirit of the United States, we requested that we discuss possible solutions, including an interstate procedure for an anti-torture convention.
In an open letter sent by the promotion committee, it was stated that "over the past 15 years, the Japanese government has moved in a direction that is diametrically opposed to the content and spirit of House Resolution 121."
It also said, "There are only 11 former comfort women survivors left in South Korea, including Lee Yong-soo," and added, "Since Lee Yong-soo is in her 90s, this may be the last chance to meet her in person."
Earlier in 2007, Speaker Nancy Pelosi played a key role in the unanimous passage of a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives calling for Japan's official apology for the former comfort women issue.
