US, India agree on joint development of semiconductors and armored vehicles
The United States and India have teamed up in defence and advanced technology for a "joint response" to China's growing military threat.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held a high-level meeting with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Washington, D.C. on January 31st (local time). signed the 'Core Advanced Technology Initiative (iCET)'.

This meeting was the second former of the follow-up measures to the US-India summit meeting held in 2022 May.

In accordance with this concept, GE Aerospace, a US defence industry company, has acquired a technology export license from the US government and plans to cooperate with India in the field of defence and space, including the joint development of jet engines.

They will also strengthen cooperation for the local production of the M777 howitzer and Stryker armored vehicles. The M777 howitzer is a weapon with high mobility that is demonstrating its power on the Ukrainian front.

In addition, the two countries plan to strengthen cooperation with Indian semiconductor manufacturers in order to diversify the semiconductor supply network. “The U.S. plan is for India to increase its capacity to manufacture legacy chips, while at the same time supporting Indian engineers doing research in the U.S.,” Sullivan said.

The United States has made a special effort to attract India as an ally with enormous potential to contain the rising threat of China.

"The greater the threat from China, the greater the impact on India's decisions" Sullivan told reporters.
