If all the discarded currency from South Korea were piled up over the past five years, it would be 77 times taller than Mount Everest.
As the use of credit cards and mobile payments has increased, the use of currency has decreased. In the past four and a half years, the Bank of Korea has disposed of 13.5 trillion won (approximately 1.5 trillion won) worth of torn or soiled banknotes and coins.
