President Yoon: ``If the North uses nuclear weapons, we will end the regime'' - South Korea

South Korean President Yoon Seo-gyul said on the 26th, ``If North Korea uses nuclear weapons, we will bring an end to the North Korean regime through an overwhelming response from the South Korea-US alliance.''
"Based on our solid countermeasures, if North Korea makes any provocation, we will immediately be defeated." President Yoon arrived at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do this morning.
At an event to commemorate Armed Forces Day, he said, ``The North Korean regime must clearly understand the fact that it cannot protect its own comfort with nuclear weapons.''
President Yoon said, ``Over the past few decades, North Korea has advanced its nuclear and missile capabilities despite repeated warnings from the international community, and has made blatant threats to use nuclear weapons.''
``This is an existential threat to the Korean people and a grave challenge to world peace.'' ``The government will further strengthen Korea-U.S.-Japan security cooperation based on the strong Korea-U.S. alliance, and work even more closely with friendly countries.''
"We will work together with the North Koreans to establish a strong security system," and reiterated that "our people will never be misled by the 'false peace' schemes of North Korea's communist forces and their followers."
. Furthermore, President Yun referred to the Washington Declaration of April this year, saying, ``The ROK-US alliance has now become more sophisticated than an alliance based on nuclear weapons,'' and ``through the ROK-US Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG),
"We will build a three-dimensional response system that combines nuclear weapons and our own non-nuclear assets, and U.S. strategic assets constantly deployed within the Korean peninsula will strengthen deterrence against North Korea's nuclear forces."
