At a high school in Jeju, South Korea, a power outage suddenly occurred during the last five minutes of the first period of the 2024 University Scholastic Aptitude Test (equivalent to Japan's common university entrance test).
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education, on the 16th, at around 9:55 a.m., during the first period of the Japanese language subject of the University Scholastic Aptitude Test, at Jeju Namnyeong High School.
The lights went out in two classrooms with only the last five minutes remaining. There was a power outage. Students who were taking the exam in this exam room will be moved to the preliminary exam room to take the exam, and candidates will be given an additional 5 minutes.
A pause was given. After that, power supply was resumed at around 10:31 a.m., but the start time of the second period for all examinees taking the exam at the same school was changed from the original 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The match was changed to 37 minutes and started seven minutes late. The power outage that day appears to have been caused by a momentary spark caused by an abnormality in the opening/closing device of a telephone pole near the school.
An official from the Ministry of Education said, ``Currently, the power supply has been resumed, and while KEPCO is carrying out restoration work and resetting the entire school, the second period will start seven minutes later than other schools.''
