Japan's total market share is 5.21%, ranking second in the world after Israel. The number of researchers totaled 601,530, an increase of 2.5%. Including research assistants, the number reached 813,763, an increase of 3.6%.

Both R&D expenses and the number of researchers decreased. On the other hand, R&D expenses for companies ranked 11th to 30th increased by more than three times.
