A man in his 40s who threatened to kidnap an elementary school student with a deadly weapon while he was on his way to school, and then tried to extort more than 20 million yen from his parents has been handed over to a court in a state of custody.

revealed. The man is suspected of threatening A, an elementary school girl, with a deadly weapon and kidnapping her while she was on her way to school at an apartment complex in Dobong-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 19th of last month.
Using the mobile phone he took from Mr. A, the man sent a message to the victim's mother that read, ``Prepare 200 million won (approximately 22 million yen) in cash,'' and demanded money.
The man decided to commit the crime in another building in the apartment building where he lived, and then went up and down the stairs in the common area of the apartment building for about an hour while holding a kitchen knife, tape, etc.
While doing so, he searched for the target of the crime. It was confirmed that he committed the crime because he had a debt of approximately 170 million won (approximately 19 million yen).
A public prosecutor's office said, ``The arrest and indictment was made because the crime was clear that the crime was premeditated,'' but added, ``We are actively providing psychological treatment to the victim and the victim's mother.''
"We provided support to them," he said. The statement went on to state, ``From now on, we will do everything possible to maintain the appeal so that the suspects receive punishment commensurate with their crimes.''
