South Korea lifts designation of government-funded research institutes as public institutions, aiming to facilitate research

Since then, it has been managed as a public institution. The characteristics of Korean research institutions were not considered, and the same regulations regarding personnel expenses as other public institutions were applied.
For more than 10 years, it has been said that Seki's capabilities are not comparable to those of excellent research institutions overseas. This time, the cancellation of the designation as a public institution will ensure the autonomy of government-related research institutions and create a system to encourage smooth research.
At the same time, this was done to accomplish the national mission and goals and achieve maximum results. Chairman of the Council of Science and Technology Funding Institutions, Ju Hang-gyu, said, ``The wishes of the research field, which lasted about 10 years, have been resolved.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Information Communication has taken this measure as an opportunity to respond to the rapidly changing technological environment by recruiting outstanding researchers and encourage government-related research institutions to collaborate with each other.
