Teacher faints after being beaten by high school boy...School recommends resignation = South Korea
Last year, it was reported that a teacher at a high school in Gwangju who was assaulted by a male student and fell unconscious was recommended by the school to resign.
The incident occurred on June 30th last year in a classroom for second-year students at a specialized high school in Gwangju.
Ta. Mr. A (16 years old at the time) was dissatisfied with the seating arrangements made by his homeroom teacher, B, and protested, but when he was not accepted, he assaulted the teacher several times with his fist, including in the face. Mr. A's assault continued for 5 minutes in front of the teacher's desk.
, Teacher B lost consciousness and collapsed and was taken to the hospital. At a subsequent meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Educational Rights, it was decided that the perpetrator would be expelled from school. The Gwangju City Office of Education considers this to be a clear violation of religious rights and is taking strict action.
I promised to respond. However, according to an MBN report on the 18th of this month, the school did not expel the student who committed the crime, but rather dismissed him voluntarily. Voluntary withdrawal is different from expulsion, as it is possible to transfer or re-enroll, and student life records are kept.
It is not recorded as a disciplinary matter in the register. Mr. A's voluntary expulsion letter stated, ``I am expelling voluntarily due to non-adjustment to school and violation of school rules.''
Not only that, but in order to prepare a voluntary expulsion document for Mr. A, the school asks Teacher B, who is currently hospitalized, to be the perpetrator student.
He is said to have had his parents meet. After the voluntary withdrawal process was completed, it was reported that Teacher B, who was a part-time teacher, was encouraged to resign.
Teacher B ended up leaving the classroom in February this year when her contract expired.
Regarding this, the city's Education Bureau said, ``The support given to the victim teacher was insufficient, and after a belated protest to the school, the offending student was once again expelled.''
The school did not respond to MBN's request for an interview.
