「韓国が許しても私は許さない」…米国人ハーバード教授の発言が話題に
“Even if South Korea forgives me, I won’t forgive”…American Harvard professor’s comment becomes Hot Topic
``We still cannot forgive the Japanese people who committed atrocities against the Republic of Korea in the past,'' said a foreign professor from Harvard University, which has become a hot topic.
According to Professor Mark Peterson's YouTube channel on the 3rd, he has recently
said something. After receiving master's and doctoral degrees in East Asian studies from Harvard University, he is a professor emeritus who lectured on Joseon history at Brigham Young University for about 30 years, and is currently known as ``The Frog Outside the Well.''
While running YouTube, he shares Korean-related content. Professor Peterson said, ``A long time ago, when I first came to Korea, I heard that the building in front of the Korean Governor-General's Office was the Central Office, but I was very impressed.
It was solidly built. Even if you pass in front of it, you can only see the Central Office and not Gyeongbokgung Palace. The Japanese guys are doing this on purpose."
Professor Peterson said, ``I'm a foreigner, but I know some of the bad things Japan did to South Korea.''
"It's a position that doesn't tolerate Japanese people more than Koreans," he said. Professor Peterson previously published a column in 2021 titled ``Comfort women, Japan once again provoking South Korea.''
At the time, he took up the paper by Harvard Law School professor Mark Ramsey, who denigrated victims of Japanese military comfort women as "prostitutes," and said, "Japan's ugly act of trying to cover up its actions during World War II is a tragic event that will continue in 2021.
"The problem with Professor Ramsey's paper is that the victims who were taken to be comfort women during World War II were all over Korea," said Professor Peterson.
"The book does not focus on how perpetrators were forced or deceived into becoming comfort women, but instead focuses only on legal themes that only lawyers can read," the report said.
Regarding the actions of the Japanese government, he said, "(The Japanese government) has stuck to its position of denying the comfort women issue," and "Japan has not shown the apology or sympathy that it should have as a war criminal nation."
Professor Peterson also said, "When will Japan and all those who represent Japan admit that they committed war crimes in the early 20th century and say they are sorry?"
He ended his sentence with "Uka."
