At 2pm on the 2nd, a trial date was held against Lee Sang-jun, former head of Bissam Holdings, professional golfer Ahn Sung-hyun, entrepreneur Kang Jung-hyun and others, who were indicted on suspicion of breach of trust and bribery at a hearing in the 11th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Chung Do-sung) of the Southern District Court of Seoul.
Prosecutors summoned him as a witness as they believed that Ahn Sung-hyun had decided to receive 5% of the equity in return for allowing MC Mong to receive investment from Kang Jung-hyun in his firm, of which he was an in-house director, and had given MC Mong approximately 2 billion won in cash in the name of a guarantee.
After refusing to attend several times due to court trauma, MC Mong turned up at the court at around 2:40 that day, and his witness hearing began at around 3:50 and ended at around 6:30. MC Mong attended the Eastern Seoul District Court instead of the Southern Seoul District Court, where he was examined as a witness via video.
MC Mong explained the process of getting to know Ahn Sung-hyun and referred to Lee Seung-gi. He said, "In November 2021, Lee Seung Gi introduced Mr Ahn as a 'tremendous investor'. At the time, I had just established a company (Big Planet Maid) and wanted to be introduced to an investor. I heard that he is the husband of Mr Song Yuri, a good family man, a good company and a man who is passionate about his work', and that 'everything was designed by Ahn Sung-hyun'.
He also stressed that the Big Planet side gave Lee Seung Gi a 2% free gift of equity as a way of thanking him and that this had nothing to do with Lee Seung Gi's intentions. Along with this, he reportedly added, "It was a thank-you for consolidating Ahn Sung-hyun, but I am very sorry to the driver and Seung-gi as I said give me 2% (of equity)."
Despite this, Lee Seung Gi's image hit became inevitable. The reference to MC Mong, who has long drawn the ire of the public for his controversy over evading military service, and the much-discussed trial over the alleged coin-listing back taxes is a blow that is not without damage.
In relation to this, Lee Seung Gi's agency, Human Made, has not shown any position. It will be interesting to see how the case will flow.
