A woman in her 50s was found with the body in a lodging facility near Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul. As police search for the suspect, an interview with the owner of the lodging facility who spoke with the suspect at the time of the incident was conducted.
On the 4th, the owner of the inn, Mr. A, said, "I was originally watching the corridors with the camera, but yesterday (the 3rd) I saw a man (suspect B) leaving with what looked like a bag, and I immediately
He reported the situation at the time via the Sekai Nippo newspaper, saying, "I went to check on the guest room, and the woman was lying there without moving, and I thought something was wrong, but then suspect B returned immediately."
When Mr. A asked about the condition of the deceased woman, asking "What's wrong? Are you OK?", Suspect B reportedly replied, "She's drunk and asleep. I'll wake her up."
At the time, suspect B said, "I'm going to wake up (the dead woman) and leave today, but I'm going to stay one more night," and paid an additional 30,000 won (about 3,300 yen) for the accommodation fee, according to A.
A said, "Immediately afterwards, suspect B left the woman alone and took her purse and left the inn. I thought something was wrong, so I went back into the room to check on her. I was shocked to find that the woman was dead."
"I immediately called the police," the police said. Through CCTV footage and other investigations, the police have identified suspect B, who was staying in the same room as the deceased woman, and are currently searching for him.
The two had been staying in the guest room since the 29th of last month, and were reported to have been visiting the inn periodically for about a year. The innkeeper said that the woman had not been seen for the past few days,
He also heard a cleaning staff member say, "There was a strange smell around the guest room on the second floor," which made him think something was wrong. The police are requesting an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to confirm the exact cause of death,
The police plan to investigate the details of the incident, including whether suspect B knew about the woman's death and left the scene. A police official said, "No trauma was found on the body that would lead us to conclude that it was a homicide or suicide."
"We plan to decide on the arrangements for suspect B as soon as we receive the findings from the initial autopsy," the police said.
