GM's connectivity service now available in Korea, with world-first features - Korean media report
General Motors (GM), a major U.S. manufacturer of assembled vehicles, recently announced that its Korean plant will begin offering OnStar, GM's connectivity service used by more than 5.6 million people worldwide, from early April.
The company announced that it has started offering the OnStar service in Korea as well. The 2025 Chevrolet Trax Crossover is the first model to feature the OnStar service.
The company plans to expand the service to cars sold under the Chevrolet brand, as well as luxury brands Cadillac and GMC.
After logging in to OnStar on a mobile device, users can press the start button on the home screen to start remote control.
In addition to being able to start the engine, it can also open and close the car doors, honk the horn, and turn on the emergency lights. It can also display information about the car's condition, such as tire pressure and when the engine oil needs changing.
Customers can check the status of their vehicles in real time. Customers can receive notifications about items that need to be replaced, inspected or repaired, as well as receive assistance from the GM service network of 350 locations nationwide.
GM Korea has also added a "digital activation function" to OnStar, the first in the world to do so. The registration process for the service can now be completed by calling the support center.
This can be easily done using the app, and then the service can be used.
