According to the Korea Times, two Korean men were caught engaging in lewd acts on a street in the Ratchada area of Bangkok, Thailand. The scene where the two were found was during Thailand's Songkran festival.
Songkran is an event held in open spaces where people splash water on each other and smear mud on each other to wash away the bad luck of the past year. It was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in December last year.
On that day, the men allegedly engaged in lewd acts inside a yellow tent set up on Ratchada Soi 4 Road. The man, wearing goggles on his head, was standing with his trousers down.
A man wearing a blue hat and black trousers was sitting in front of it, jacketless. The video of the incident went viral on social media.
The two did not seem to mind the passers-by, but they quickly stopped what they were doing when a security guard saw them and tried to stop them.
Local police who investigated the incident revealed that the two were Korean and said, "We received a report about the incident, but no one came to report it." The exact date and time of the incident are unknown.
They were charged with exposing themselves and committing lewd acts in public under Section 388 of the Thai Penal Code, which put them at risk of a fine of up to 5,000 baht (about 20,980 yen).
Police continued to pursue the two men in order to prosecute them, but they reportedly left Thailand before they could be punished. Internet users who saw the video commented, "Shouldn't they be banned from entering Thailand?" and "What else can they do?"
They responded with comments such as, "Why would they do such a thing at a traditional national event?" and "It is a disgrace to the country."
