POSCO completes silicon-based anode material plant in Pohang, with annual production capacity of 5.5 million tons (Korea)

POSCO Silicon Solution, a silicon oxide (SiOx) anode material manufacturer, is building a 5.5 million ton annual SiOx anode material production plant in the Yeongil Bay Industrial Complex in Pohang.
The company announced that it has completed a new manufacturing plant for silicon-based anode materials. The plant that has been completed this time is for downstream processing. The company built the plant in order to rapidly respond to customer needs for silicon-based anode materials.
Prior to this, in July 2022, POSCO Group acquired SiOx-related technology in order to strengthen its anode material portfolio and respond to growing market demand in advance.
The company later changed its name to Posco Silicon Solutions and broke ground on the factory in April 2023.
POSCO Silicon Solutions plans to complete a factory for front-end processing in September this year, aiming to achieve an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons by 2030.
The POSCO Group plans to also produce silicon carbide (SiC) anode materials in the future.
) is scheduled to start up a demonstration plant for silicon-based carbon composite materials at the end of April in the Yeongilwan Industrial Complex.
The company plans to strengthen its value chain for secondary battery materials, including electrode materials, silicon-based anode materials, and solid electrolytes.
