Ministry of Environment: ”Practice carbon neutrality and collect carbon neutral points” (Korea)
In South Korea, the Ministry of Environment is actively promoting carbon neutral points, and it is hoped that the fun of collecting points through small changes in daily life will become much more widespread.
On the 24th, the Ministry of Environment announced that Han Hwa-jin, the environmental director of NoNo Shop, an environmentally friendly store in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul,
The minister said he and the Ministry of Environment 2030 Advisory Group had a meeting to discuss how to achieve carbon neutrality. The Ministry of Environment 2030 Advisory Group has been working to support the demands of the younger generation (ages 19-38) in opposing the ministry's policies.
It is a special advisory body within the Ministry of Environment that operates for one year and is headed by a professional, fixed-term civil servant who was hired to project the environment. The body is made up of 20 members from various walks of life, including university students, company employees, and entrepreneurs.
"No No Shop" means "No plastic, no animals"
It is an abbreviation of "animal" and refers to plastics, disposable items, products made from animal ingredients, etc.
In particular, this eco-shop/cafe, which promotes "zero waste," sells detergent in refillable containers and sells coffee and other items in reusable containers (which can be washed and reused multiple times).
Minister Han and the advisory team decided to use the containers when purchasing drinks at stores and directly accumulate carbon neutral points.
In addition, together with the advisory group and Julian Quantart, co-chair of NoNoShop, we will consider ways to make the carbon neutral point a reality in everyday life.
We had time to freely exchange opinions on ideas that could lead to participation in carbon neutral practices. Carbon neutral points are calculated by the amount of cash equivalent to 10 carbon neutral practice activities carried out in daily life.
The system provides points that can be used for various purposes, encouraging citizens to practice carbon neutrality. Minister Han said, "Practicing carbon neutrality in daily life is not an inconvenience, but it is a way to protect the earth from global warming and promote carbon neutrality."
It has a positive meaning that corresponds to the benefit of the individual, like the concept of the word "environment." It is designed to consider the lifestyle of the younger generation so that protecting the environment is not an inconvenient or unpleasant thing, but rather a good thing.
"We will increase the benefits and provide support in various areas."
