WHO: ”Vaccines will save 150 million lives over 50 years... Infant mortality rate to fall by 40%”
The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on the 24th that vaccinations have saved at least 154 million lives over the last 50 years.
WHO also marked World Immunization Week on this day, in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund and Bill and Malinda Gates.
In a press release issued jointly with the foundation, the company said, "Vaccination saves six lives every minute." According to the WHO, young children are the ones who benefit most from vaccination.
Of the 154 million lives saved by vaccinations, over 101 million were young children. Infant mortality rates fell by 40% in 50 years.
In relation to this, the WHO stated, "Measles vaccination has made the greatest contribution to reducing infant mortality," and "will continue to play an important role in the future."
The main vaccinations are for 14 diseases, including diphtheria, cerebrospinal meningitis, hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, measles, whooping cough, polio, rotavirus, tetanus, and tuberculosis.
WHO points out that during the COVID-19 pandemic, medical resources in each country should focus on responding to COVID-19 and pay attention to cases of children who missed out on vaccinations.
He added that as many as 67 million children have missed out on at least one vaccine dose during the pandemic.
The WHO said: "If you are unable to receive the two-dose measles vaccine,
As of 2022, there will still be 33 million children who have been expelled from the country."
