Democratic Party of Korea: ”We expect the meeting between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Chairman Lee Jae-myung to reflect the will of the people in the general election...It seems like the answer has not already been decided” (South Korea)
On the 27th, the opposition Democratic Party said that the meeting between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Chairman Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party to be held on the 29th was "a complete violation of the will of the people in the general elections."
"I hope that this will be a summit that will reflect the current situation," said Spokesman Choi Min-seok at a briefing on the same day. "This will be the first summit since the inauguration of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.
"It has been about 700 days since the summit was proposed," Choi said. "We hope that this will be a forum for communication that fully reflects the will of the people. We are looking forward to seeing how the summit will reflect public opinion."
"I hope that this will be a forum where we can sit down and seek answers to how we can materialize this," he said. "The attitude shown by the presidential office during the working-level negotiations makes me question whether a change in the tone of national politics can be realized."
He added, "I believe that the people gave a clear command through the April 10 general election, and the top-level meeting is an opportunity for the president to respond to the public's will in that general election."
He added, "The presidential office has not indicated any intention to act on the topic, but I hope the president's answer has not already been decided."
