The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to implement traffic restrictions in stages from 5:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. on the day to ensure that participants can run safely.
The Seoul Half Marathon is a marathon representing Seoul that starts at Gwanghwamun Square in the center of Seoul and runs through the city along the beautiful Hangang River. Since its inception in 2016, it has been attracting many participants.
Participants in the Seoul Half Marathon can choose between two courses: a half marathon and a 10km course. The half marathon runs from Gwanghwamun Square to the World Cup stadium.
The 10km course runs to the Seoul Peace Plaza, while the 10km course runs to Yeouido Park. Both courses include a route across the Han River, so participants can enjoy the scenery of the Han River no matter which course they choose.
Starting this year, in order to operate an environmentally friendly marathon, participants will be served drinks in non-disposable cups at the finish line of each course.
In order to minimize the inconvenience to citizens caused by traffic restrictions, the city of Seoul has subdivided the restriction times by section and will continue to do so until all participants have passed through the section.
The traffic restrictions will be lifted in the relevant sections after the event is over. With the cooperation of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and other related agencies, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has set up traffic control signs in the sections where the event will be held.
The city of Seoul plans to minimize crowding and set up a joint operations headquarters and medical booths with the National Police Agency and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency to manage safety and prevent accidents during the tournament.
Kim Yong Hwa, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "The Seoul Half Marathon is expected to be an event where people can fully enjoy the charms of Seoul under the refreshing spring sun."
"We will be holding a variety of sporting events so that residents can easily enjoy them at any time, even in their busy daily lives."
