On the way to the Ranbu Cave, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji discover Wen Ning hiding in the grass and following them. The two take Wen Ning to the Ranbu Cave.
When Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, and Wen Ning arrived at the caves of Ranzangang, they found Jin Ling, the Jin family, and other disciples of the various schools held captive. Wei Wuxian told Wen Ning,
