According to a JTBC report on the 29th of this month, a woman in her 20s was found with the body in a hotel in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul on the 18th.
The suspect, a man in his 20s, was found to have been using drugs. After the two entered the room, no one else was found in the room until the woman was found dead.
During police investigation, suspect A stated, "I used drugs alone, but when I woke up I found a woman dead in the bathtub. I don't remember anything."
The National Forensic Service conveyed its initial findings to the police, stating that "the cause of death is highly likely drowning."
In particular, although there were bruises and wounds on the woman's body, there were no signs of resistance, which would be expected if a person were to be drowned by force.
This case is similar to the "pregnant wife murder case" that occurred in 2011. At that time, the wife suffocated to death in the bathtub, and the only person who entered and left the house was the man.
The husband, who was the first person involved, was believed to be the culprit. However, the Supreme Court overturned the case, citing a lack of direct evidence, and after five trials, the guilty verdict was finalized.
Police arrested and indicted suspect A on suspicion of assault resulting in death and violation of the Narcotics Control Act.
