”I'm sorry I couldn't do much”... A father in South Korea donates money earned from selling waste paper on Children's Day
On the 6th, the last day of the Children's Day holiday, a man was reported to have donated sweets and other items with the money he earned by collecting waste paper.
According to the Deokcheon Police Station of the Busan Bup Police Station in South Korea
At around 11:10 a.m. on the same day, a man who was wandering around in front of the police station left a cardboard box and disappeared. Inside the box were letters, clothes, snacks, ramen, and an envelope containing 30,000 won bills.
The envelope contained a request to "deliver to a family with a baby in need." The donor, who introduced himself as a father of three, wrote in the letter, "My first child is a Grade 3 disabled child.
"We are a family on welfare," he said. "We sold waste paper and saved up a little bit of money to buy clothes, snacks, and cash, but we worked hard for a month to save as much as we could. However,
"If I buy clothes and snacks, I will have about 30,000 won (about 3,400 yen) left in cash," she wrote. She continued, "The bills are all wrinkled, so I ironed them out one by one."
"It's a small amount, but I hope you will accept it. I'm sorry I couldn't give more," he added. The anonymous donor said, "It's worrying that it will rain again this year on Children's Day, just like last year."
It's raining and I'm feeling depressed, but I hope you'll be happy to receive my present. I hope the child will love the clothes."
Police checked security cameras and found that the anonymous donor was a police officer and firefighter during a fire in Dong-gu, Busan last year.
He was the man who left 45,000 won (about 5,100 yen) he had collected by selling waste paper at the Tokugawa Police Station, hoping that the money would be used for charity.
It was discovered that this person made a total of seven donations last year.
A Tokugawa Police Station official said, "The donor had intended to bring the box (containing sweets and other items) to the community center, but since it was a holiday, we think he brought it to the police station." He added, "We feel like angels.
The employees who work on their days off were deeply touched." Police plan to hand over the items sent by the anonymous donor to the Administrative Welfare Center in Deokcheon 2-dong.
