Democratic Party of Korea: ”The Ministry of Justice releasing President Yoon Seok-yeol's mother-in-law on parole is a Parents' Day gift” (South Korea)
On the 8th, the opposition Democratic Party announced that President Yoon Seok-yeol's mother-in-law, Choi Woong-sun, had been found 'eligible for parole' by the Ministry of Justice Parole Review Committee.
"The fairness and common sense that the government has spoken of has once again bowed down before injustice and absurdity," Hwang Jeong-ah, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing, "Minister Yoon Seok-yeol, who is pro-Yoon,
"It is shocking that the Ministry of Justice, which has the power to appoint a justice minister, stepped in and gave the president's mother-in-law a 'Parents' Day (May 8th) present' on his behalf. This is the reality of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which has privatized state power," he said.
He continued, "If the Ministry of Justice were normal, it should have shown the president's family that they have no privileges under the law by treating them more severely.
"They were busy supporting the president. They were at the forefront of corruption and privilege for the president," he said. "If the Ministry of Justice were to finally release the president's mother-in-law on parole, the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's fairness and common sense would become a laughing stock.
"It will fall into a trap," he said.
