According to April statistics released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on the 15th, a total of 3,042,900 foreigners visited Japan last month.
This is the first time in history that the number of cases has exceeded 3 million, setting a new record for a monthly figure, and is the second highest figure after March's 3,081,600 cases.
This figure also represents a 4.0% increase compared to the same month in 2019, when there was no impact from the COVID-19 virus outbreak.
JNTO analyzed that "the cherry blossom viewing season and the continued depreciation of the yen have shown a trend toward an increase in the number of tourists."
Looking at the number of foreigners who visited Japan last month by country, South Korea was the largest with 661,200 people.
The number of South Korean visitors was 16.7% higher than in the same month in 2019, setting a new record for April.
This is followed by China (530,600), Taiwan (459,700), and the United States (228,900).
The number of infected people in China was down 26.5% from April 2019.
