Police request ban on departure of singer Kim Ho Joong and her agency CEO (South Korea)
Police have requested a departure ban on singer Kim Ho Joong (33) and management office officials who are suspected of a drunk driving hit-and-run.
On the 20th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul issued a criminal complaint against Kim Ho Joong and other management office personnel.
The agency said it had applied to the Ministry of Justice for a departure ban. The request included Kim Ho Joong's management office, Saenggak Entertainment's CEO Lee Kwang Deuk, and his associates.
These included Kim Ho Joong's manager who falsely turned himself in on his behalf on the day of his death, and the head of the management office who removed the memory card from the dashcam in Kim Ho Joong's car.
However, it has been learned that approval for the departure ban has not yet been given by the Ministry of Justice. Kim Ho Joong was involved in a traffic accident at around 11:40 pm on the 9th of this month, when he was crossing the street in the opposite direction on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
He is suspected of causing an accident by rear-ending a taxi and then fleeing the scene (fleeing causing injury under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specified Crimes and failing to take any action after the accident, among other charges).
Kim Ho Joong left the scene after the accident and went to a hotel in Gyeonggi Province.
Three hours after the accident, Kim Ho Joong's manager went to the police wearing Kim Ho Joong's clothes and reportedly caused the accident himself.
The head of the management office made a false statement, and removed the memory card of the dashcam in Kim Ho Joong's car, showing that the office personnel tried to cover up the crime in an organized manner.
Kim Ho Joong issued an apology yesterday through his management office admitting to drunk driving. Police say Kim Ho Joong and the management office have systematically concealed the incident, including destroying evidence.
The police are considering applying for arrest warrants for Kim Ho Joong and others, as they have been complicit in the scheme and there are concerns they may flee.
