On the 21st, Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun responded to the criticism of Han Dong-hoon, former head of the People Power Party's emergency response committee, on social media by saying, "We should all run together toward our goal.
On the same day, Mayor Wu posted on social media, "(Politicians) can express their opinions as much as they want on social media. I recently wrote, 'The People's Power Party must break away from being a party that only looks to the president for guidance.'
"My belief in a healthy party-government relationship remains unchanged," he wrote. "However, I would like to limit the expression of opinions by politicians from the ruling party on social media to the minimum extent possible," Kure said.
"If necessary, senior officials can directly contact and discuss with the President's Office, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Vice Minister," he said. This is seen as a remark directed at former Chairman Han.
Mayor Kure said, "I said that it is not healthy to have internal passageways that can be fully utilized and to have only showy aspects. However, the expression 'behavior' is not appropriate.
Looking back, I think that the expression I used was inappropriate. Even if you have a slightly different opinion from me, I think all members of the People's Power and the government share the same concern for the health and safety of the people.
Prior to this, former Chairman Han wrote on social media, "The Seoul mayor called my presentation of opinions a 'misguided 'behavior,' but in a free and democratic society, constructive presentation of opinions is a 'behavior.'
Not many people would agree with the following: If it is absolutely necessary for the public interest, it is possible to restrict citizens' right to choose, but when it is unavoidable to restrict citizens' right to choose, it should be done to the minimum extent possible.
