According to the Korean legal community on the 20th, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced suspect A, who was charged with defamation, to a fine of 700,000 won (approximately 80,000 yen).
In February of last year, suspect A used abusive language on employee B in front of a large group of people at a resort pool in South Gyeongsang Province because he thought the employee was "unfriendly."
The suspect was accused of pouring water over the pool. When Mr. B discovered that the grandson of the suspect A had urinated in the pool while he was about to enter the pool, he pumped the water out of the pool.
During the process, Suspect A hurled abusive language at Mr. B, calling him unkind. Suspect A's family members also stood around Mr. B and watched as he pumped out the water from the pool.
The court stated, "Looking at the security camera footage, it was not apparent that Mr. B was treating the family of suspect A in an unkind manner." "Rather, suspect A was seen to be peeing.
"The suspect A engaged in incomprehensible behavior, such as putting his grandson back into the pool without washing him after he had taken a bath," the court said.
The mental anguish suffered is believed to be considerable," the court said. "The sentence was decided taking into consideration sentencing factors such as suspect A's age, character, environment, and family relationships."
