Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader of People's Power, sends letter to request party to ”join forces” in response to vote in favor of special investigation bill (Korea)
On the 23rd, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party (ruling party), sent individual letters to all party lawmakers, informing them that they would vote against the 'Special Prosecutor's Act for Private Choi,' which was teased for a second vote on the 28th.
"As a responsible ruling party, we will thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident, clarify where responsibility lies, protect the honor of the Marines who died in the line of duty, and ensure that such tragedies do not occur again," Aki wrote in the letter.
"We have a duty to make every effort to ensure that this does not happen again," he wrote. "The president also said, 'I will look into the investigation by the High-Ranking Public Officials Crimes Investigation Agency, and if the public suspicions are not resolved, I will first appoint an independent prosecutor.
"We all feel the same way," he added. Aki, the floor leader, said, "Rather than getting to the truth of the case, the big opposition parties are trying to turn the case under investigation into a political battle.
The president is forcing the passage of the special investigation law in order to prevent the passage of the law. The unconstitutional law was passed exclusively by the opposition party without the consent of the ruling and opposition parties, so the president has no right to request a reconsideration (veto) under the constitution.
"Although this is a natural step, the Democratic Party of Korea is misusing it in its political offensive, even going so far as to talk about impeachment," he said.
We strongly demand that the Public Prosecutors Office conduct a swift and fair investigation. We ask that you join forces once again." Some in the political world have called for the People's Power Party to vote in favor of the Special Prosecutor's Act for Private Choi.
Currently, Ahn Cheol-soo, Yoo Eui-dong, and Kim Ung are the three People's Power lawmakers who support the special prosecution bill.
