China's National Bureau of Statistics reports youth unemployment rate falls in April, 14.7% for 16-24 year olds - Chinese media

On the 21st, the National Bureau of Statistics of China announced the age-specific unemployment rate for April. In April, the unemployment rate for 16-24 year olds in both urban and rural areas nationwide was 14.7%, the unemployment rate for 25-29 year olds was 7.1%, and the unemployment rate for 17-29 year olds was 14.7%.
The unemployment rate for those aged 30-59 was 4.0%. All three figures exclude students. All three figures are down from March. The unemployment rate for those aged 16-24 was down 0.6 percentage points, and the other two figures were down 0.5 percentage points.
The figure fell by 0.1 percentage points. The Office for National Statistics stopped publishing youth unemployment rates in July last year, citing a review of its survey methods. It then revised its methodology to exclude students looking for work from the survey in December of the same year.
China has resumed publishing unemployment rates for the 16-24, 25-29 and 30-59 age groups.
"The April unemployment survey results for urban and rural areas across the country showed that the unemployment rate was 1.4%," said spokesman Aihua at a recent press conference.
The unemployment rate was 5%. It was down 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, and China's surveyed unemployment rate has fallen for two consecutive months. The unemployment rate of key groups, such as migrant workers, dropped significantly.
The unemployment rate for migrant workers in the United States was 4.5%, down 0.5 percentage points from the previous month and 0.6 percentage points from the same month last year.
