On the 28th, Byeon WooSeok, who played Ryu Sung-jae in the tvN drama ‘Lovely Runner’, which finished airing after 16 episodes, shared his thoughts on the end of the drama.
In the final episode of ‘Lovely Runner’, Sungjae (Pyung Woo-seok) regained all his memories of Im Seol (Kim Hae-yun) after a time skip of 15 years and reunited with her in tears, leaving a long afterglow in the TV theatre. Song-jae did not die any more, and Seol did not have to fight alone any more to keep Song-jae alive, finally putting an end to the epic story of two people who saved each other and bringing it to an end.
Through ‘Lovely Runner’, Byeon WooSeok showed a new, never-before-seen Byeon WooSeok, portraying a 19-year-old student Song-jae, a 20-year-old college student, and a 34-year-old top star Song-jae, each of whom is in his teens and thirties, with different faces. He portrayed different faces of youth and left behind the title of ‘First Love Icon’ as well as the formula ‘Byeon WooSeok = Ryu Sung-jae’.
His growth in terms of acting was also evident. Early on, he delicately expressed the gradual loss of light and conveyed all the emotions of the character, but he also ventilated the atmosphere of the play with realistic acting befitting his age, making us completely absorbed in the character of Sung-jae. His passionate performance of romance stood out above all else, but his 15-year pure love for Seol, combined with visuals reminiscent of first love, gentle gaze and mid-bass voice, thrilled the audience every moment he appeared on screen, triggering the ‘Song-jae disease’ across Asia and the world, and earning him the title of ‘genius of loco’, which he had been hoping for. The show won the long-sought title of ‘genius of loco’. The romance chemistry with Kim Hae-yun, who plays the role of Seol, was just perfect, and Byeon WooSeok achieved the best results in all aspects, successfully completing his first attempt at the title role.
Byeon WooSeok, who has attracted the most passionate interest since his debut, delivered his greetings via his agency, VARO Entertainment. Byeon WooSeok said, ‘Hello, I am Byeon WooSeok, who played the role of Ryu Sung-jae in “Lovely Runner”. Actually, although I knew this moment would come, I didn't think it would come so instantaneously, so it seems I don't feel it more... I lived as Song-jae for a little over a year, but my heart is still fidgety and I have feelings I can't express in words. It was like a dream for me, and I think it's the most meaningful work I've ever done, and I hope the audience will agree with me. I am very grateful to Sungjae for coming to me, and I ask for a lot of interest and love for Byeon WooSeok from now on. Thank you very much," he said, expressing his heartfelt gratitude.
