Nine Chinese nationals arrested and indicted for attempting to travel within South Korea with fake IDs
Chinese nationals who entered Jeju, South Korea, without a visa and then attempted to leave the island using false IDs, along with the brokers who assisted them, were arrested and put on trial.
On the 29th, the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office announced, "We have arrested and indicted nine Chinese nationals, including 55-year-old A, on charges of violating the Special Act for the Establishment of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Creation of an International Free City, as well as forgery of public documents."
In addition, four others, including two Korean brokers, including a 34-year-old man, and two Chinese brokers, including a 43-year-old woman, were also arrested and indicted on similar charges.
Suspect A and nine others, who entered Jeju without a visa, decided to work illegally in Seoul and other areas between January and March this year, using false IDs and traveling to Jeju.
According to the Jeju Special Act, foreigners who enter Jeju without a visa cannot travel to other areas outside of Jeju.
The forged identification used in the crime was not only Alien Registration Cards, but also a variety of other documents, including Domestic Residence Declaration Cards for Koreans with Foreign Nationality, Permanent Residence Cards, and Resident Registration Cards.
