The two customs offices signed a friendly customs cooperation agreement in 1989, but had suspended exchanges since 2006.
At the meeting, the two customs authorities shared the latest trends and trade situations and discussed measures to strengthen customs cooperation with a view to promoting e-commerce.
Amid the rapid growth of e-commerce between Japan and Korea, the two customs offices shared their systems and experiences regarding e-commerce and confirmed their continued cooperation in order to reduce logistics costs and speed up customs clearance.
As part of their exchange, the Osaka Customs delegation visited the Yongdang Customs' special sea freight clearance facility in Busan that morning prior to the meeting and observed the customs clearance process using scientific testing equipment.
"Through this meeting, we will continue to strengthen cooperation to promote trade and prevent criminal transactions," said Jang Eun-yo, head of the Busan Customs Office.
"We will continue to pursue proactive tariff diplomacy to create an environment in which Korean companies can trade more easily and to evolve into a central global nation," he said.
