Former bodyguard LUDA arrested one year after hitting woman who asked him to move her car (South Korea)
A former bodyguard who assaulted a woman who asked him to move her car was sentenced to prison and detained in court. Judge Hong Jun-seo of the Incheon District Court announced the sentence on the 31st.
At the trial, Defendant A (39), who was indicted on charges of joint assault under the Act on the Punishment of Violence, etc., was sentenced to two years in prison and detained in court.
Prior to this, the prosecution had requested the court to sentence defendant A to three years and six months in prison.
Judge Hong said, "Looking at the testimony in court and the related evidence, I can confirm that the defendant is guilty," and added, "The defendant, who was an athlete, unilaterally assaulted a victim who was physically unable to defend himself."
"I have no choice but to impose a prison sentence, taking into consideration the actions of the defendant and the fact that he committed these crimes," he said. After the sentencing, in response to Judge Hong's question about whether he had anything to say, Defendant A replied, "I have caused controversy in society and I really don't want to say anything.
"I feel so sorry and regretful," he said, weeping. On May 20th last year, at around 11 am, defendant A grabbed the hair of Ms. B, a woman in her 30s, in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Namdong-gu, Incheon.
The defendant was given an indictment without detention for repeatedly hitting B with his fists and feet. Defendant A also spat in B's face. At the time, B's car was blocking his own car, so when he protested to B to move, he was assaulted.
He was diagnosed with a six-week recovery period, including broken ribs. The video showing Defendant A's assault was released to the public, sparking outrage in society. After that, Defendant A was repeatedly entered in domestic tournaments.
It was revealed that the accused was a former bodybuilder who had won the LUDA Award. After the incident, Defendant A closed down the gymnasium he was running.
At the closing hearing on the 1st of this month, Defendant A's lawyer stated, "The defendant has committed 100 or 1,000 crimes.
"It was not the case," he said, but added, "I would like you to take into consideration the fact that he misunderstood that he had harmed his pregnant spouse, which led him to commit the assault."
"After this incident, the defendants operated businesses in Seoul, Gangnam and Incheon.
"He closed down the two gyms he was working at and gave up all the profits he made from YouTube and other channels," he said. "He moved from one rental property to another due to unpaid taxes, but he made a huge amount of money, totaling 100 million won (approximately 11.34 million yen)."
In this case, Defendant A reportedly submitted a petition of 75 pages and appealed for leniency. However, when given the opportunity to speak in court, Ms. B's husband said, "I have not yet
"His wife is suffering from pain and is undergoing drug treatment," he said, emphasizing, "She is further distressed after learning that he made the deposition under such circumstances."
Mr. B's side has made it clear that he refuses to accept the deposit and has called for severe punishment for defendant A.
