Two ”filthy balloons” from North Korea led to 860 calls to police in South Korea
It has been revealed that North Korea's two "filthy balloons" have resulted in more than 800 reports to police in South Korea.
According to the Korean National Police Agency on the 2nd, a case involving a "filthy balloon" was reported between 9 pm on the 28th of last month and 5 pm on this day.
A total of 860 reports were received. Of these, 581 were reports of "discovering an object," and 279 were inquiries about "disaster emails" to filthy balloons.
On the 28th and 29th of last month, North Korea sent over 260 balloons filled with cigarette butts, paper waste, plastic and other waste and garbage into the South (South Korea).
From 8 p.m. on the 1st, they again sent filthy balloons south. The ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff said, "By 1 p.m. on the 2nd, over 720 filthy balloons had been sent to Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong-do.
"The balloons were discovered in Gyeongsangbuk-do and other areas," he said. Police and fire departments immediately responded to the report and took measures such as preserving the scene, while the military collected the balloons and their remains.
The relevant agencies are conducting detailed analyses. To date, no chemical warfare agents (chemical, biological, or radioactive) or other contaminants have been found in the waste balloons.
