South Korea's semiconductor industry promotes cooperation with Vietnam and Malaysia, also develops overseas human resources - South Korea
It has recently emerged that the Korean semiconductor industry is promoting general cooperation with Vietnam and Malaysia, from production to human resource development.
Vietnam is home to production bases for global giants such as Samsung Electronics and Apple.
For national companies, the benefit is that they can develop human resources while reducing the risk of conflict between the United States and China over semiconductor hegemony. Meanwhile, Malaysia has announced a national semiconductor strategy.
The government plans to invest 10 billion ringgits (approximately 16.661 trillion yen) in the semiconductor design, high-performance semiconductor packaging, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment industries.
The government aims to make the country a research and development (R&D) hub and train more than 60,000 semiconductor engineers. An industry source said, "It is still difficult to establish semiconductor factories in Vietnam and Malaysia, but we are looking into design, packaging, and other areas.
"There is great potential for cooperation in the semiconductor industry. Korea is facing limitations in the number of semiconductor workers due to a low birth rate and other factors, so we are even training overseas workers," he said.
Seoul University's Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Semiconductor has recently launched a talent exchange program for students from prestigious universities in Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
The plan is to provide educational opportunities at the school and ultimately train them to become human resources for the Korean semiconductor industry.
